Digital Memory Cards

A memory card or flash memory card is a solid-state electronic flash memory data storage device used with digital cameras, mp3 players, handheld and laptop computers, telephones, music players, video game consoles, and other electronics. They offer high re-recordability, power-free storage, small form factor, and rugged environmental specifications. Flash memory stores information in an array of floating gate transistors, called "cells", each of which traditionally stores one bit of information. Newer flash memory devices, sometimes referred to as multi-level cell devices, can store more than 1 bit per cell, by using more than two levels of electrical charge, placed on the floating gate of a cell.

Flash cards have been suggested as a possible replacement for the floppy disk, although USB flash memory drives, which work on almost any computer with a USB port, have been filling this role instead.USB flash drives have several advantages over other portable storage devices, particularly the floppy disk. They are generally faster, hold more data, and are considered more reliable (due to their lack of moving parts) than floppy disks.

All flash memory devices can sustain only a limited number of write and erase cycles before failure. Mid-range flash drives under normal conditions will support several hundred thousand cycles, although write operations will gradually slow as the device ages. This should be a consideration when using a flash drive to run application software or an operating system. The most common cause of data corruption is removal of the flash memory device while data is being written to it. The situation is aggravated by the usage of unsuitable file systems that are not designed for removable devices, or that are mounted async (where there is data still waiting to write when the device is removed).

Capital Data Recovery Inc. uses unique inhouse recovery equipment to recover corrupted or deleted files from usb drives, compact flash smart media, secure digital cards, multimedia cards, xD cards, flash memory and other equivalent devices.
